SSC Reorganization Update


Dear Colleagues,

I am sharing an update on the Shared Service Center (SSC) reorganization project.

Effective July 1, the four existing shared service centers will consolidate to one Finance SSC and one HR SSC. The HR SSC will realign with Human Resource Management in the coming months as part of the HR Transformation Project, and the Finance SSC will continue to support campus finance-related transactions.

The Finance SSC reorganization project will:

  • Realign workload assignments to ensure equitable workload equity for SSC team members.
  • Deliver consistent services and processes with standardized delivery outcomes
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities for campus partners and SSC team members based on the Service Level Agreement approved by the SSC Service Experience Council in fall 2021
  • Introduce a ticketing system used by campus partners and SSC team to create transparency in work processes

On May 21, all SSC Finance staff began reporting to Caitlin Day Wedel, who was selected as the Finance SSC Director following an open search. SSC HR staff began reporting to Jody Milford, who transitioned from Carruth SSC Director to HR SSC Director.

Leadership Changes

Many of you have formed strong relationships with your respective SSC directors over the past several years, and I am pleased that all former SSC directors will continue to serve the university in new roles.

Caitlin Day Wedel

In her new role as Finance SSC Lead Director, Caitlin will help design and develop the long-term strategic direction of the Finance SSC in collaboration with the Finance leadership team, Comptroller’s Office, and Office of Research.

Jody Milford

Jody Milford has transitioned from serving as the Carruth SSC Director to a role with the HR Transformation project as Human Resources SSC Director. Jody will lead all SSC HR-related activities and oversee all HR SSC staff. She currently serves on the HR Transformation Project steering committee and is the co-chair of the project workgroup. She will continue to report to me in the interim as the HR transformation project work progresses.

Karla Williams

Karla Williams has transitioned from serving as the Strong Hall SSC Director to a budget position in the College Dean’s Office, where she will work collaboratively with College and budget leaders to perform financial analysis, budget preparation, budget tracking, financial reporting, and personnel management for several departments within the College. Karla will join the College effective June 11.

Michelle Ginavan Hayes

Michelle Ginavan Hayes has transitioned from serving as the Eaton Hall SSC Director to a role in Human Resource Management effective May 21. In her new role, Michelle will work with her HRM colleagues on tenure/tenure-track and executive level searches to ensure a positive experience for new faculty and executives by connecting them with relevant university and community resources. She will have additional responsibilities in the areas of HRM communications, employee wellness, and training and development. Over the next several months, Michelle will work as part of the HR Transformation communications team.

Caitlin, Jody, Karla, and Michelle have vast institutional knowledge and valuable skills and will continue to make valuable contributions to the university. Please join me in welcoming them to their new roles and offering your support as they work to help guide the future of the Finance Shared Service Center, the Finance unit, Human Resource Management, and our university overall.
